Ishrat Jehan Fake Encounter Case

Ishrat Jahan was killed on June 15, 2004, along with three others on the outskirts of Ahmedabad by a police team which claimed that it had been tipped off by the IB that the four were terrorists who planned to assassinate Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi

Former Gujarat Intelligence Bureau chief Rajinder Kumar has been charged with murder and three serving officers have been accused of conspiracy in the Ishrat Jahan encounter case
In its supplementary chargesheet filed on Thursday Feb 06,2014 the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) has also accused -
  • Rajinder Kumar
  • P Mittal
  • MK Sinha and
  • Rajiv Wankhede
of conspiracy and illegal confinement.

Rajinder Kumar has been charged under the Arms Act too; the CBI has alleged that he provided the weapons used by the Gujarat cops to kill Ishrat and three others and an AK-56 that, the agency alleges, was planted at the scene of the shooting to portray the victims as terrorists.

The 200-page charge sheet mentions no motive for the involvement of the officers in the encounter. The antecedents of those killed have also not been mentioned.
