Federal Judge Strikes Down Virginia Gay Marriage Ban Thursday Feb 13,2014

A federal judge ruled Virginia's ban on gay marriage unconstitutional on Thursday Feb 13,2014 that Virginia's ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional, making it the first state in the South to have its voter-approved prohibition overturned.

U.S. District Judge Arenda L. Wright Allen's ruling makes Virginia the second state in the South to issue a ruling recognizing the legality of gay marriages.

The Virginia judge's ruling also follows similar decisions in Utah and Oklahoma federal courts.

District Judge John G. Heyburn ordered on Wed Feb 12,2014 that Kentucky recognize same-sex marriages that had been legally performed in other states and opened the door wide for activists to strike down Kentucky's ban entirely
The Ruling did not rule on the constitutionality of same-sex marriages inside the state

A federal judge ruled in Jan 2014 that an Oklahoma law limiting marriage to heterosexual couples violates the U.S. Constitution, giving yet another victory to same-sex marriage supporters. U.S. District Court Judge Terence Kern said the court would not immediately enforce this ruling -- therefore not opening the doors right away to marriages of gay and lesbian couples in Oklahoma -- pending appeals.
