Egypt's military-backed Interim Govt Resigns Monday Feb 24,2014

Egypt's military-backed interim Govt has resigned, Prime Minister Hazem Beblawi has announced but gave no reason for the decision in his televised statement on Monday Feb 24,2014

The cabinet's decision to submit its resignation to interim President Adly Mansour was made after a meeting attended by the armed forces chief and Defence Minister, Field Marshal Abdul Fattah al-Sisi.

Hazem Beblawi was appointed prime minister in July 2013 after the military overthrew President Mohammed Morsi following mass protests against his one-year rule.

Egypt's government has resigned, the prime minister said on Monday Feb 24,2014 paving the way for Army Chief Field Marshal Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to declare his candidacy for president

For Sisi to run for president he would first need to leave his post as defence minister. "This (government resignation) was done as a step that was needed ahead of Sisi's announcement that he will run for president," an Egyptian official said.

The departing government of Hazem  Beblawi is the fifth since the 2011 uprising which led to the overthrow of Hosni Mubarak.

Hazem  Beblawi announced his cabinet's resignation on Monday during a 15-minute speech on live television, in which he said Egypt was facing "huge dangers". "The cabinet has over the past six or seven months shouldered a very difficult responsibility... in most cases the results were good,"
