DMK’s 10th State Conference February 15 and 16,2014

The DMK’s 10th State conference, which began in Tiruchi on Saturday with the ceremonial unfurling of the party flag by DMK president M. Karunanidhi, made it amply clear that Party Treasurer M.K. Stalin was emerging as the undisputed successor.

DMK president M Karunanidhi unfurled the flag and Party Treasurer M K Stalin hoisted it, as innovative fireworks lit up the sky. Portraits of leaders of the ‘Self-Respect’ movement and Dravidian icons were unveiled

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief, M. Karunanidhi, will preside over the State conference of the party for the sixth time in a row, when he chairs the 10th session here on February 15 and 16.
Karunanidhi, as party president, first presided over the fifth in 1975. Later, he presided over the sixth at Tiruchi (1990), seventh at Coimbatore (1993), eighth at Tiruchi (1996) and the ninth also at Tiruchi (2006).

This is considered a rare achievement for any political leader in a democratic set-up.

The DMK has so far held 9 State conferences ever since it was launched at a public meeting at Robinson Park in Chennai on September 17, 1949.

The party founder, C. N. Annadurai, presided over the first three State conferences.

DMK Party Treasurer M K Stalin said that the allies would take part in the party’s State conference to be held here on February 15 and 16,2014

Leaders of the Indian Union Muslim League, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi and the Puthiya Tamizhagam would address the meet

The 10th State conference of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Sunday Feb 16,2014 urged the Indian government to move a resolution in the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) seeking referendum among the Sri Lankan to facilitate a political solution preferred by them.
A resolution adopted in the meeting said India should insist on a referendum under the supervision of the United Nations and an international inquiry into the alleged war crimes in the last phase of war between the Sri Lankan Army and the LTTE.
The Centre should not fall prey to the Sri Lankan government and should stand by the U.S. when the resolution against the Sri Lankan government for its human rights violations is moved in the UNHRC

DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin, at the tenth state conference, had reflected the resolution of the party's general council meeting on alliance for the Lok Sabha elections.
“The resolution has clearly explained on whom we should have alliance with; and the parties that should be excluded. Those who are present here in the venue and on the dais have understood well the resolution

DMK MP Kanimozhi on Sunday Feb 16,2014 said social justice could be protected only if the DMK alliance, led by Party chief Karunanidhi, wins all the 40 seats in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the Lok Sabha polls

DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin on Sunday accused the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam of being a regime of “empty promises” as it never cared to implement any of the promises made to the people.
Addressing the mammoth State conference of the DMK here, he said the people of Tamil Nadu were desperately looking for elections to the State Assembly along with the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls as they were tired of the AIADMK regime.
Citing a report of Central Statistical Organisation, he said, the growth of the State had plummeted as it was no longer the destination of investors, he said.
On alliance for the Lok Sabha polls, Mr. Stalin, who strongly opposed an alliance with the Congress, said the Tiruchi conference had reflected the resolutions adopted in the general council of the party. “The resolution has clearly explained with whom we should have alliance and the parties that should not be included in the alliance,” he said. The general council, adopting a resolution against going with the Congress, decided to contest the Lok Sabha polls in the company of the existing allies.

alone could be part of the DMK alliance.

DMK president M. Karunanidhi said that DMK had already entered into an alliance with a few political parties such as Viduthalai Chiruthikal Katchi (VCK), Puthiya Tamizhagam, Manithaneya Makkal Katchi and Indian Union Muslim League.
