in 1927 became general secretary of the Congress party
was a member of the Indian National Congress and advocated a tough stand against the British much to the discomfort of other senior Congress leaders including Mahatama Gandhi
in 1939 left the Congress and formed the All India Forward Bloc following massive differences with Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru
in 1941 under house arrest by the British authorities, Netaji had escaped from India in 1941 to seek international support for the country's freedom struggle
in 1945 organized the Indian National Army with Japanese help which comprised of Indian soldiers of the British Indian army who had been captured during World War II
gave many popular slogans like 'Jai Hind' and vowed to throw out the British from India by force using the INA.
was last seen at the Bangkok Airport on August 17, 1945
