11th Education for All Global Monitoring Report 2013 – 14

UNESCO released the 11th Education for All Global Monitoring Report 2013 – 14 on 28 January 2014. The theme of the report was Teaching and Learning: Achieving quality for all.

UNESCo released the 11th Education for All Global Monitoring Report 2013 – 14 on Tuesday Jan 28,2014


The Theme of the Report was Teaching and Learning:Achieving Quality For All


The Report warns that despite advances made in education,not a single goal laid down in Dakar,Senegal in  2000 will be achieved globally by 2015

The "EFA Global Monitoring Report, 2013-14: Teaching and Learning: Achieving Quality for All", commissioned by the UNESCO, said 10 countries (including India) account for 557 million or 72% of the global population of illiterate adults.

India has by far the largest population of illiterate adults -- 287 million or 37 %of the global total

India's literacy rate rose from 48% in 1991 to 63 % in 2006, (the latest year for which data was available), but population growth cancelled the gains. So there was no change in the number of illiterate adults

In India,Education accounts for 10.5% of the Total Govt Expenditure which is 3.3% of the GDP whichwas below the target of 6% of GDP

Allocation for Education in India varies widely across States -
  • Kerala 685 Dollar a year per pupil
  • Himachal Pradesh 542 Dollar a year per pupil
  • West Bengal 127 Dollar a year per pupil
  • Bihar 100 Dollar a year per pupil
