Former Australian prime minister Kevin Rudd, who has served as the
member for Griffith in the House of Representatives since 1998,
Nov 13,2013 Wednesday night announced his retirement from politics with a speech in
the House of Representatives
“The decision that I have made has not been taken lightly, particularly given the big attachment I have for the community I proudly represented in this place these past 15 years,” he said in the speech.

About Kevin Rudd
- First elected as MP from Griffith in 1998
- became prime minister in 2007, defeating the then prime minister John Howard and taking the Australian Labour Party back to office
- The Office of prime minister came to an abrupt end in June 2010 when he was dumped by his party colleagues in favour of Julia Gillard
- reclaimed the job of prime minister in June 2013 when he defeated Julia Gillard in a party-room showdown
- Kevin Rudd(Labour Party)getting only 55 seats lose the Sep 7,2013 election to Tony Abbott(Liberal/National Coalition)which got 90 seats out of the 150 seats in the Australian House of Representatives
