Mini Buses To Ply in Chennai,Tamil Nadu,India Wed Oct 23,2013




Bus connectivity in the suburbs is set to get a boost, with the State government rolling out mini buses on Oct 23,2013 Wednesday morning.

The buses  were flagged off by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa at a function  held at Nehru Stadium


The small buses, with a seating capacity of 27, will operate as feeder services in suburban areas as an alternative to autos and share autos
The foot-board is lower in the mini buses than on the regular ones. This is to help senior citizens and children board the buses easily
The minimum fare is set at Rs. 5 and the maximum would be Rs. 9

State Transport Minister, Senthil Balaji had in May 2012, announced in the Assembly that mini buses would be introducedin Chennai
On Tuesday Oct 21,2013, the brand new buses were parked at the Institute of Road Transport in Taramani, as there was no space in other depots. The words ‘Small Bus’ are inscribed on the light green vehicles, and there are leaves painted on them.
