TN Govt's Study Abroad Programme

The Study Abroad Programme was a result of a memorandum of understanding between the State government and British Council under which 25 students and five professors would be visiting the U.K.

The TN Govt, through the Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education, would be spending Rs.15 lakh on each of the candidates

The first batch of students and teachers who will be going to the U.K. under the Study Abroad programme of the State government in association with British Council met Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Wednesday Aug 28,2013

Handing over their admission cards and flight tickets, Ms.Jayalalithaa advised them to make the best use of the opportunity to improve their knowledge and use the learning for the betterment of Tamil Nadu.

The batch comprising 14 Students, 13 of them women, and 3 Lecturers will, as part of the programme, study and train respectively at various institutions in the U.K. They will be going to Edge Hill, Nottingham, Royal Holloway and Birmingham universities and the tour will be from August 28 to September 21,2013

The selected 2-year PG Students would be sent abroad in the third semester and the State government will bear the expenses that works out to Rs. 15 lakh per head

The selection was based on a screening test.

14 PG Students of  Govt Colleges in TN have been selected to go to London in a month to study for a semester in reputed educational institutions there, said P. Palaniappan, Higher Education Minister said at the Graduation Day of C. Kandaswami Naidu College for Women on Thursday Aug 8,2013

TN Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa was keen that the opportunity of studying in leading foreign institutions should be given to the students of 62 Govt Colleges in TN, he said.

“This is the first of its kind programme in the country,” he said
