Richard M Nixon -37th President of USA

Richard Milhous Nixon (January 9, 1913 – April 22, 1994) was the 37th President of USA serving from 1969 to 1974 and was the only president to resign the office

Also Richard M Nixon served for 8- years as vice president during January 20, 1953 – January 20, 1961

The Watergate scandal was a a political scandal that occurred in the United States as a result of the June 17, 1972, break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate Office Complex  in Washington, D.C., and the Nixon administration's attempted cover-up of its involvement. The scandal eventually led to the resignation of Richard M Nixon, the President of the United States, on August 9, 1974 — the only resignation of a U.S. President to date

In May 1974, the House Judiciary Committee began formal impeachment hearings against Nixon. On July 27,1974 the first article of impeachment against the president was passed. Two more articles, for abuse of power and contempt of Congress, were approved on July 29 and 30. On August 5, Nixon complied with a U.S. Supreme Court ruling requiring that he provide transcripts of the missing tapes, and the new evidence clearly implicated him in a cover up of the Watergate break-in. On August 8, Nixon announced his resignation, becoming the first president in U.S. history to voluntarily leave office.
