Caroline Kennedy Nominated as US Ambassador to Japan

President Barack Obama has nominated Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of former President John F Kennedy, to be America's ambassador to Japan

Caroline Kennedy,a lawyer by training, was a key Obama supporter in 2008 and 2012, but has largely shunned political life and is the only surviving child of the assassinated president and former First Lady Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy

If confirmed by the Senate, she would be the first woman to serve as envoy to Japan
