Philippines Ivory Trafficking


A steamroller is used to crush stockpiled ivory tusks on June 21, 2013 in Quezon City, Philippines. At least five tons of smuggled elephant tusks were destroyed at the Philippine parks and Wildlife grounds to raise awareness on the intensified effort to cub wildlife poaching.

The Philippines is among one of eight countries of priority and concern on the illegal ivory trade, particularly its role as a trade route and transit country for elephant tusks originating from Kenya, Uganda and Zambia. The Philippines is a signatory to the Geneva based Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Flora and Fauna, banning the trade of ivory
