Former Philippine President Joseph Estrada Elected Mayor of Manila -Monday May 13,2013

 




Joseph Estrada(76)the former Philippine president who was overthrown 12 years ago in a popular uprising, has been elected mayor of the capital, Manila

Joseph Estrada who  got  52.72 % Votes defeated the incumbent Mayor Alfredo Lim(running for the mayorship for the third consecutive time) a former police chief of Manila who got 47.28% Votes


Joseph Estrada's running mate is Vice Mayor Isko Moreno who has served since 2007

  • was the vice-president of philippines during june 1992 - June 1998
  • was elected 13th president of philippinesin 1998 by what was the biggest ever margin at that time
  • was ousted in a revolt backed by the Catholic Church and the army in January 2001
  • found guilty of plundering state funds and accepting millions of dollars from illegal gambling syndicates and given a life sentence in 2007 
  • granted pardon by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo
  • contested the 2010 Presidential Election,but placed second behind Senator Benigno Aquino III
