Chelsea got the equalizer after the interval in the 47th minute as a result of another own goal, this time a deflection off Matt Kilgallon, and Branislav Ivanovic's touch on a David Luiz shot.
Chelsea increased the lead in the 55th minute, with Ivanovic reacting quickly to divert Luiz's long-range shot out of the reach of Sunderland keeper Simon Mignolet
