M S Dhoni Scores Double Century in 1st Test against Australia at Chennai - Sunday Feb 24,2013


M S Dhoni's Double Century -


  • his first in international cricket
  • is also his first century against Australia. 
  • is his 6th Test Ton and highest score surpassing his previous best of 148 against Pakistan in Faisalabad in 2006
  • is the highest score by an Indian captain against Australia in Tests
  • became the first wicket-keeper batsman from India to cross 4000 runs in Test Cricket
  • made him the leading run-scorer among Indian captains across formats, ahead of - Mohammad Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly, Tiger Pataudi and Sunil Gavaskar.
  • is also the highest individual score by an Indian Wicket Keeper surpassing Budhi Kunderan's 192 against England in 1964 (also scored in Chennai)
  • is also the highest score by an Indian Captain  against Australia surpassing Mohammad Azharuddin's 163 in Kolkata in 1998 
  • surpass Sachin Tendulkar's score of 217 ainst New Zealand on October 29, 1999 at Ahmedabad. 
  • the highest Test score in history by a wicketkeeper-captain, surpassing Alec Stewart's 164 of England against South Africa in 1998
  • became the first wicketkeeper to score a double-century in a single day as well as the first Indian batsman to score a double-century against Australia in a single day.
  • is the fourth Indian captain in Test history to score a double-century after MAK Pataudi (203) against England, Sunil Gavaskar (205) against West Indies and Tendulkar (217) against New Zealand.
  • is the third highest score by any wicketkeeper in Test cricket history, behind Andy Flower's 232 against India in 2000 at Nagpur and Kumar Sangakkara's 230 against Pakistan in 2002 at Lahore
  • third highest individual Test score in Chennai after Virender Sehwag's 319 against Pakistan and Gavaskar's 236 not out against West Indies in 1983
  • third captain in Test cricket history to slam a double-century at No. 6 after Don Bradman (236) and Hanif Mohammad (203)



At the end of Day 3 on Sunday Feb 24,2013,India were 515/8 with M S Dhoni  206* in 243 balls with 4x22 and 6x5(his first three-figure knock  in Tests since the 144 against West Indies at Eden Gardens in November 2011)and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar 16* were at the crease
