The TN Govt had asked district administrations across the state to invoke
relevant legal provisions to ban the screening of the movie for about
two weeks to maintain law and order.
The ban came after several Muslim outfits protested against screening of the film, due for release tomorrow, claiming that it depicted the community in negative light.
A group of 20-odd organisations under a common banner submitted a memorandum to Home Secretary R Rajagopal to press for their demand, a day after taking up the matter with city police.
MH Jawahirullah, MLA and president of Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam, told reporters that the movie "targets Muslims and their beliefs".
Mohammed Haneefa, Coordinator of Federation of Islamic Movements and Political Parties, said the community would not accept such portrayal even if certain scenes are deleted. "We intend to register our apprehensions that release of the film with (even) deleted scenes or changes will affect the social harmony and all-round peace in the state," he said
Kamal Haasan reacts strongly to the Tamil Nadu government's decision to ban 'Vishwaroopam' following protests from some Muslim groups and said -
"I have been ruthlessly used as a vehicle by small groups who seek political profile. Icon bashing is a great way to be noticed when you are not one yourself. It is happening again and again. Any neutral and patriotic Muslim will surely feel pride on seeing my film. It was designed for that purpose,"
He said the Court would view the movie on January 26 which will serve the larger purpose for deciding the issue

Kamal Haasan's lawyers on Jan 24,2013 Thursday have moved the Madras High Court challenging the prohibitory orders of the Tamil Nadu government to prevent the screening of his movie Vishwaroopam in Tamil Nadu theatres for 15 days starting January 25,2013
Madras High Court refuses to stay ban on ‘Vishwaroopam’
The Madras High Court, which took up Kamal Haasan's
petition for revoking the 15-day ban by State Government on his
upcoming movie Vishwaroopam, has decided to take a call on the release of the movie on January 28,2013.
Justice K.Venkatraman, who heard the petition said in his order: "Whether the film has got any scenes affecting the
sentiment of the people, who have given complaint or not, could be
decided only after viewing the movie."He said the Court would view the movie on January 26 which will serve the larger purpose for deciding the issue
‘Vishwaroopam’ screening stopped in Hyderabad - Jan 25,2013
Kamal Haasan’s ‘Vishwaroopam’, which was released all
over the world on Friday, has been deferred at Hyderabad theatres by one
day.
Home Minister P. Sabitha Reddy asked the police in Hyderabad and
Cyberabad not to allow screening on Friday in view of Milad-un-Nabi
festival being celebrated by Muslims.
She told reporters that the distributors and exhibitors of the
film have been asked to postpone its release by one day. She clarified
that the movie could be screened in the rest of the State on Friday and
the restriction pertained only to the Twin Cities.
