Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has given the go ahead for the Chennai Corporation to set up as many as 1,000 tiffin centres across the city which would sell each idli for Rs 1, sambar rice for Rs 5 and curd rice for Rs 3.
J Jayalalithaa gave the administrative approval for the first phase of the project, which will see one tiffin centre set up in each of the Chennai Corporation’s 200 wards.J Jayalalithaa also ordered the allocation of 500 metric tonnes of rice to the Chennai Corporation for use in these tiffin centres.
The Chennai Corporation’s 1,000 tiffin centres are expected to benefit these daily wage earners, manual labourers, cart pushers, rickshaw pullers, auto drivers and other unorganised workers
