Yash Chopra died on Oct 21,2012 Sunday evening at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai where he was being treated for complications due to dengue fever.
Filmmaker Yash Chopra's funeral will take place on Monday at 3 pm at Mumbai's Pawan Hans crematorium. Before that friends, admirers and fans will get to pay their last respects, from 9 am to 12 noon, at the Yash Raj Studios, where his body will be kept.
'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' was his final film as director.
Film Career
Began his career as an Assistant Director to I S Johar and his elder brother B R Chpora made his directorial debut with 'Dhool Ka Phool' in 1959, a melodrama about illegitimacy, Produced by his elder B.R.Chopra and starring Rajendra Kumar and Mala Sinha.
Yash Chopra Directorial Film Dharmputra(1961) was one of the first films to depict the scenario of partition of India and and the Hindu fundamentalism. The film marked the debut of Shashi Kapoor in a fully fledged role and was awarded with the National award for Best Feature Film in Hindi.
Yash Chopra rose to fame in 1965 after the commercially and critically successful drama, 'Waqt', which pioneered the concept of multi-starrers in Bollywood.(Starcast of Sunil Dutt,Raaj Kumar,Shashi Kaporr,Sadhana,Sharmila Tagore).Waqt got Yash Chopra his first Filmfare Award -Best Director
