Chicago Teachers Union Strike

The Chicago Teachers Union(CTU) is a Labor Union  representing teachers and paraprofessionals in the Chicago Public School System.
On September 10, 2012, the Chicago Teachers Union began a strike after CTU President Lewis declared that negotiations with the city were not succeeding. This strike will be the CTU's first since 1987, and the first strike ever for many of the teachers involved. In particular they demand a decrease in high-stakes testing for students, and an increase in music, art, and gym programs available at public schools. They also want smaller class sizes and paid preparation time.
