Winners of the Sports Awards 2012



Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award
2012 London Olympic Games Silver Medallist Vijay Kumar and Bronze Medalist Yogeshwar Dutt were on Wednesday Aug 29,2012 jointly conferred the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, India's highest sporting honour.

 
 

Normally only one award of Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna is given every year to an individual sportsperson. However, the scheme provides that this condition can be relaxed in exceptional circumstances like winning of an Olympic medal.

25 sportspersons were honoured with the Arjuna Award
Normally not more than 15 awards are given in any calendar year but an exception has been made this time because it is an Olympics year.
The Arjuna Awardees are -

12)Anup Kumar (kabaddi)
13) Samir Suhag (polo)
14)Annu Raj Singh (shooting)
 15)Omkar Singh (shooting)
16) Joydeep Karmakar (shooting)
17) Deepika Pallikal (squash)
18)Sandeep Sejwal (swimming)
19)Ng. Sonia Chanu (weightlifting)
 20)Narsingh Yadav (wrestling)
 21)Rajinder Kumar (wrestling)

The Arjuna Awardees got statuettes, citations and cash prize of Rs 5 lakh each.

Dronacharya Award
 The Award ,top recognition for coaches in the country, was conferred on 8 persons -
 1)Virender Poonia (athletics)








2)Sunil Dabas (kabaddi)
3) Yashvir Singh (wrestling)
4)Harendra Singh (hockey)
5)Satyapal Singh (para sports (athletics)
6)JS Bhatia (athletics, for Life Time achievement)
7) Bhawani Mukherjee (table tennis, for Life Time achievement) and
 8)) BI Fernandez (boxing, foreign coach).

Dronacharya Awardees got statuettes, citations and cash prize of Rs 5 lakh each











Dhyan Chand Award
The Award ,given for the life-time contribution to sports development, was conferred on -
1) Jagraj Singh Mann (athletics)








2)Gundeep Kumar (hockey)
3)Vinod Kumar (Wrestling) and
4)Sukhbir Singh Tokas (para-sports).

The award carries a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh, a statuette and a citation
