Central Govt and State Govt Oppose Convening of TESO Meet
Both the Central and Tamil Nadu governments had on Friday submitted in the court objections to certain aspects of the conference. The Centre told the court that it would not allow the organisers, including DMK, to use the word 'Eelam' in the heading of the international conference, while the state government said it may deny permission for holding the event as the chosen venue was not big enough to accommodate the number of people expected to attend it.
Chennai City Police Deny Permission
City police have denied permission for the pro-Eelam TESO meet on various grounds but they cannot be divulged as the matter was sub-judice, Chennai Police Commissioner J K Tripathy told PTI on Saturday.
DMK Files Petition With High Court
DMK filed a petition in the High Court challenging the Police Commissioner's order denying permission for the event. he petition came up before the single Judge Mr Justice N Paul Vasantha Kumar, who after hearing it for nearly an hour, said it would not be proper for him to decide on it as a connected case was pending before the Division Bench and referred the matter to the Chief Justice. After a prolonged wait, it was announced that the petition would come before the same Division Bench, which would have a special sitting
