A Taliban-like diktat in a village Panchayat on Wednesday July 11,2012 in Uttar Pradesh has banned love marriages and also barred young women from using mobile phones.
The Panchayat has also banned women under the age of 40 years from going out shopping and going out unescorted and barred boys from using headphones on roads and in bylanes. The Panchayat also ruled that when women leave their homes, their heads must be covered.
On the positive side, the Panchayat has also condemned the practice of dowry calling it a punishable offence.
