Sand Artist Sudarshan Pattnaik(Odisha)

Sudarshan Pattnaik(DOB April 15,1977)born in Puri, nearly 60 km from Bhubaneswar,the capital city of Orissa.He is the inventor of sand art in India and has learned this form of art by himself without any guidance but only by practice and creative ideas. He started sculpting images on sand since the age of seven.

He has won many national and international awards for his creative designs and has recorded his name in the World records for sculpting the tallest Santa Claus and most Santa Claus image built on sand.


Sudarshan Pattnaik won the People's Choice Prize at the 1st Moscow International Sand Sculpture Championship held in Russia.






Odisha-based sand artist Sudarshan Pattnaik's sculpture of Hindu god Ganesha has won two gold medals at the just-concluded Solo International Sand Art Contest held Between July 9-17,2012 in Marbella, Spain.
The 3.5-metre sand sculpture bearing message - "Save The Sea Life" - won in 'People's Choice' and 'Best Positive' sculpture categories.
 He was the only sand artist from India to participate in the contest.Other participants included artists from Spain, Italy, Ireland, Germany, Ukraine, Russia, Poland and Holland.

Sudarshan Pattnaik has participated in more than 50 international sand art competitions across the globe and won many accolades.

Pattnaik carved around 12ft high sculpture at the championship. The theme of the competition was 'Secret of the World'(India). The championship was from 22nd April to 28th April at Kolomenskoe Museum Reserve in Moscow


10 countries participated in this competition and Pattnaik was the solo representative from India
Sudarsan Pattnaik Wins International Sand sculpture festival in Denmark

Sudarsan Pattnaik won the grand prize at the prestigious Copenhagen International Sand sculpture festival in Denmark for his sculpture on environment. Sudarsan Pattnaik won the prize for his sand sculpture 'Go Green, Save Earth'.Sudarsan Pattnaik created the 15 feet-high sculpture in 7 days for the festival

Ghana won the Jury prize and Italy won the Artist prize

Sudarsan Pattnaik won the Jury prize in Copenhagen last year.

Odisha's noted sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has created yet another wonder erecting a 35 feet by 75 feet sand idol of Lord Jesus.

Sudarsan used about 1000 tonnes of sand mixed with coloured sand in the statue which comprised the sculptor of Lord Jesus, Mother Mary and Santa Claus.

Pattnaik, who was assisted by 25 of his students at the Sudarsan Sand Art Institute of Puri, took 3 days to build up the mammoth structure, which will be on display from December 24 till January 1,2014
