On June 05, 2012, the 'Solar Impulse' successfully completed its first intercontinental flight, flying a 19-hour trip from Madrid, Spain, to Rabat , Morocco.
The plane - the size of a jumbo jet - was powered by 12,000 solar cells turning four electrical motors.Made of carbon fibre, the plane is the size of an Airbus A340 but only weighs as much as an average family car.
Solar Impulse is a Swiss long-range solar-powered aircraft project led by Bertrand Piccard and Andre Borschberg
