Ilaiyaraaja,The Maestro இசைஞானி


Ilaiyaraaja (born Gnanadesikan on June 02,1943)has composed over 4500 songs and provided film scores for more than 950 Indian films in various languages in a career spanning more than 30 years.
In 1993Ilayaraja became the first Asian to compose a full symphony performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra  in London's Walthamstow  Town Hall.
In 2003, according to a BBC  international poll, people from 155 countries voted his composition "Rakkamma Kaiya Thattu" from Tamil film Thalapathi(1991)  fourth in the world's top 10 most popular songs of all time.

Ilayaraja was conferred the title Isaignani இசைஞானி by Tamilnadu CM M Karunanidhi in 1988

Ilaiyaraaja has won the National Award for Best Music Direction -
Telegu Film Saagara Sangamam(1984)
Tamil Film sindhu Bhairavi(1986)
Telegu film Rudra Veena(1989)


Ilayaraja has also won the National Award for Best background Score for the Malayalam film 'Pazhaasi Raja'(2010)
