Fourth Episode - Malpractices in Medical Treatment

The Show talked about the malpractices in medical treatment, besides highlighting corruption, insensitivity and rampant malpractices in the medical profession and recounted cases where patients were recommended to undergo surgeries while they actually suffered from minor ailments.
The fourth episode dealt with horrendous medical practices forthrightly. Right from the deceitful ‘Basin’ blood test to the ‘cut percentage’ offered by pharmaceutical companies, and from astronomical fees students have to shell out to pursue medicine to drug mafias casting a wicked web of incentives to pocket more profits.

To understand what the Medical Council of India (MCI), a statutory body regulating medical colleges, affiliation, new colleges, and doctors’ registration is doing to tackle such frauds, Aamir Khan spoke to Dr KK Talwar, the Board of Governors.

Aamir Khan proved better than the nasty Karan Thapar while interviewing Dr KK Talwar, and looked more like an interrogator questioning the accused who was liable to answer to not one but many who sought answers.

Dr KK Talwar fell short of words and could only commit to Aamir and the people of India to take stringent actions against doctors who have turned corrupt and whose main intention is to mint money.

Medscape India, an umbrella body of 21 medical institutions, has asked Bollywood actor Aamir Khan to apologise for defaming doctors on his TV show Satyamev Jayate.

In an open letter dashed off to Aamir, the Medscape India said it was shameful that doctors be subject to such unilateral scrutiny, while acknowledging that representation of malpractices by doctors is "rather sad".
"Doctors operate in the same socio-legal environment as everyone else; are a part of the present society. No wonder that the practices of dishonesty, corruption, scams have percolated down to this profession as well. Hence they can not be isolated from the society and remain in ivory towers," the letter said.

Aamir Khan with the help of Dr. Shamit Sharma from Rajasthan, enlightened viewers by informing them about generic medicines that are available at affordable cost and are in no way inferior to the branded medicines produced by celebrated pharmaceutical companies.

IMA Seeks Apology from Aamir Khan

The show highlighted the malpractices in the medical profession and the IMA had demanded an immediate apology from Aamir and warned him of legal action if he failed to do so.
“Aamir Khan should apologise for having defamed and given one side of the story on medical profession. If he does not, we are contemplating to take legal action against him for defaming and demoralising the medical profession in his TV show,” IMA Secretary-General D.R. Rai had said.

Aamir Khan says he won't apologise

Aamir Khan on Wednesday June 06,2012 refused to apologise to the Indian Medical Association (IMA), which has accused him of defaming the medical profession through his TV show “Satyamev Jayate.” He said he was ready to face any legal action threatened by it. “I am very comfortable if they [IMA] plan to take legal action if they feel that I have done something wrong. Of course, the courts are available for them. My answer is no, I will not be apologising,”

Fifth Episode -Honour Killing in India

Guests on the show included couples who tied the knot by going against their families, relatives who lost their loved ones on the name of honour killing, people who help such couples and others.
When you have the right to vote at the age of 18 and can choose the prime minister of your country, why you don’t have the freedom of choosing your life partner?
When the constitution of India has given a right to every individual to choose his/her life partner, then how can anyone call these marriages illegal?
Sanjay Sachdev, chairman of Love Commandos was interviewed by Aamir during the show.Love Commandos provide help to lovers.

Established in 2010, it is a voluntary organisation having a national network of volunteers. The volunteers include lawyers, journalists and human right activists as well. They provide counseling to youngsters through their helpline. Apart from that, Love Commandos provide food, shelter, protection and legal assistance to the couples who tie the knot against their family’s wish. They have seven shelters for lovers across India.

Aamir’s  interaction with Khap Panchayat members was the most surprising part of the show. Khap Panchayat is a religious caste-based council.

These Khap Panchayats have no judicial powers or police force. Though the members claim that they never order to kill any couple, but their views on inter-caste marriages were shocking. They agreed that Manoj and Babli didn’t deserve to be killed, but according to them their marriage was morally wrong .

  1. That dark day was a blessing

    The blessing which was cursed

    Silent wounds were inflicted

    That could never be nursed

    The day you were discovered

    Your father was delighted

    And your grandma too

    Was never more excited..

I curse the machine till date

That told them you were my girl

They didn’t want your rosy cheeks

    And honey golden curls

Immortal Shame I carry in my heart

    That I couldn’t save you

My loved ones turned into beasts

I couldn’t take the horrific rue..

    It was painless laser

And In a minute you were dead..

I was numb and my ears burnt

“We will have a son now” your living father said

I miss you my child each and every day

And curse my own soul ,
