China officially the People's Republic of China (PRC), is the most populous country in the world(with over 1.3 Billion Citizens)located in East Asia covering approximately 9.6 million square kilometres (3.7 million square miles) and the 2nd largest country by land area in the world( first being Russia)
People's Republic of China(PRC) is a Single Party Country governed by the Communist Party of China exercising jurisdiction over 22 Provinces,5 autonomous Regions,4 Directly Controlled Municipalities(Beijing,Tianjin, shanghai and Chongqing)and 2 Mostly Self-Governing Special Administrative Regions(SAR's) - Hong Kong and Macau.
These 22 provinces, 5 autonomous regions, and 4 municipalities can be collectively referred to as '' Mainland China''.

The PRC also claims the island of Taiwan, which is controlled by the government of the Republic of China, as its23rd province, a claim controversial due to the complex political status of Taiwan and the unresolved Chinese Civil War.
The Chinese Civil War (1927 – 1949/1950) was a Civil War  fought between the Kuomintang (KMT or Chinese Nationalist Party), the governing party of the Republic of China, and the Communist Party of China (CPC) (also known as CCP - Chinese Communist Party), for the control of China which eventually led to China's division into two Chinas - Republic of China(ROC) and People's Republic of China (PRC).
PRC is regarded as one of the world's five remaining Communist States (along with Vietnam,North Korea,Laos and Cuba)
With 2.3 million active troops, the People's Liberation Army (PLA) is the largest standing military force in the world, commanded by the Central Military Commission (CMC).The PLA consists of the People's Liberation Army Ground Force (PLAGF), the People's Liberation Army Navy  (PLAN), the  People's Liberation Army Air Force  (PLAAF)
From its founding in 1949 until late 1978, the People's Republic of China was a Soviet-style centrally planned economy without private businesses or capitalism.Following Mao's death in 1976 and the consequent end of the Cultural Revolution,Deng Xiaoping and the new Chinese leadership began to reform the economy and move towards a more market-oriented mixed economy under one-party rule.Under the post-Mao market reforms, a wide variety of small-scale private enterprises were encouraged, while the government relaxed price controls and promoted foreign investment.
Free compulsory education in China consists of elementary school and middle school, which lasts for 9 years (ages 6–15); almost all children in urban areas continue with three years of high school. As of 2007, 93.3% of the population over age 15 are literate.
