- surpassed Sir Donald Bradman's record of highest score of 270 against England in 1937 by an Australian captain on home soil.
- became the 21st cricketer and seventh Australian player to score a triple ton
- he eclipsed the 109-year highest score at the SCG, fittingly in its 100th Test match, of 287, registered by Englishman Reg Foster.
