North Korean leader Kim Jong Il dies of heart attack at the age of 69

                                               (February 16,1941/42 - December 17,2011)

Kim Jong Il,the Supreme Leader of North Korea  died on Saturday Dec 17,2011 of heart failure at age 69 ruled North Korea for 17 years with a ruthless iron grip.(came to power when on July8, 1994 Kim Jong-II 's father died at the age of 82 years).


Kim Jong II was the Supreme Leader of North Korea,General Secretary of the Worker's Party of Korea,Chairman of the National Defence Commission of North Korea and Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army
Kim insisted on a strict centrally planned economy that proved disastrous for North Korea’s 20 million-plus inhabitants. Food shortages brought on by Kim’s mismanagement of the economy, and accentuated by natural disasters, have led to estimates as high as two million deaths due to starvation since the 1990s.



North Korean state TV showed weeping mourners pass their former leader, whose body is on display in a glass coffin at the Kumsusan memorial palace in the capital, Pyongyang.
Kim’s youngest son, Kim Jong Un, whom the late despot briefly groomed as his successor, has been announced as the nation’s new leader.

The state news agency said a funeral would be held in Pyongyang on 28 December and Kim Jong-un would head the funeral committee. A period of national mourning has been declared from 17 to 29 December,2011.

Kim Jong-II State Funeral Held 

 

North Korea has begun two days of funeral services for late leader Kim Jong-il with a huge procession in the capital, Pyongyang.

 

Kim Jong-un (son) was accompanied by his uncle, Chang Song-taek and Ri Yong-ho, the army chief, also accompanied the hearse as it drove past ranks of troops through the snowy capital.The three-hour funeral procession was led by a limousine bearing a huge portrait of a smiling Kim Jong-il. The coffin was draped in a red flag and surrounded by white flowers.
