Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi (January 5 , 1941 - September 22,2011)




Pataudi (the 9th and last Nawab of Pataudi) was admitted to hospital on the August 29,2011 for a serious lung infection which led to a respiratory failure which in turn led to cardiac arrest and the Former Indian Cricket Captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi passed away on September 22,2011 at 5.55 P.M.
Pataudi belonged to an aristocratic and illustrious family and his father, Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi, was the ruler of the princely state of Pataudi.
Pataudi became the youngest captain of the Indian cricket team at the age of  21 years in 1962 and led the Indian Cricket Team  in 40 of his 46 Tests scoring 2,793 runs at an average of 34.91.with highest score of 203Not Out against England at the Ferozeshah Kotla in NewDelhi in his 10th Test match in 1964
.Pataudi retired from cricket in 1975.



 Pataudi's Achievements in Indian Cricket

Pataudi became the youngest captain of the Indian cricket at the age of 21 years in March1962 after Nari Contractor was out of game due to injury.
Pataudi held the world record for the youngest test captain until 2004 when Tatenda Taibu(born May 14, 1983)(Zimbabwe) became the youngest Test captain in history, when he captained his team against Sri Lanka on May 4,2004.
Pataudi was arguably the1st captain to recognize the importance of spin bowling, choosing to play 3 spinners against foreign teams.
Pataudi was credited for lifting the morale and winning spirit of the team;think out of the box and tackling each opponent with a different strategy.
A car accident permanently damaged his right eye when he was 20,despite that defect and with only one eye he has scored 6 Hundreds and 16 Fifties in his test cricket career against very good bowling attacks.
Pataudi captained India's first ever Test match win overseas and test series win overseas against New Zealand in 1968.

Awards

Pataudi was honoured with the Arjuna Award in 1964 and the Padma Shri in 1967 for excellence in sports



Marriage and Family

In 1969Pataudi married Sharmila Tagore(Actress) and the couple had 3 children – Son Saif Ali Khan(Actor) and Daughters - Soha Ali Khan(Actress) and Saba Ali Khan( jewellery designer)
