Lions

Lions are the only cats that live in groups, which are called prides. Prides are family units that may include up to three males, a dozen or so females, and their young.
Only male lions boast manes, the impressive fringe of long hair that encircles their heads.
Lions will hunt alone if the opportunity presents itself, and they also steal kills from hyenas or wild dogs.
Lions have been celebrated throughout history for their courage and strength.

African Lion - Male

Only 200 or so Asian lions exist in the wild. A former royal reserve, India's Gir Forest, is the last home of this lion subspecies.

This powerful predator roams the Americas, where it is also known as a puma, cougar, and catamount.
Mountain Lions like to prey on deer, though they also eat smaller animals such as coyotes, porcupines, and raccoons. They usually hunt at night or during the gloaming hours of dawn and dusk.

Lions often sleep for most or all of the day, especially in extreme heat

Lionesses are in charge of hunting for the pride and work together to bring down fast-running herd animals like wildebeest, zebra, and antelope.
