England Captain Eoin Morgan scores 4th fastest hundred ever in CWC Tuesday June 18,2019

Eoin Morgan scores century in 57 Balls,4th fastest in CWC

Eoin Morgan hit the 4th fastest hundred ever in a World Cup match as England took a firm grip over Afghanistan in their 6th match of World Cup 2019 at Old Trafford on Tuesday June 18,2019

Eoin Morgan entered the Old Trafford arena a ball before the end of the 30th over, with Joe Root on 45. 79 balls later Joe Root would find himself on 70, standing at the non-striker’s end

His captain had faced 57 of them, smashing the last down the ground over long on, an incredible 11th six to bring up a simply unbelievable hundred – the fourth fastest in World Cup history

By the time he eventually departed, Morgan had bludgeoned 17 sixes in his innings of 148, the most for one batsman in ODI history and perhaps equally satisfyingly an entire century’s worth of runs just from shots that flew over the ropes

So preoccupied was he with six-hitting in his near-pornographic, 71-ball demolition of Afghanistan’s bowlers, Morgan only had time to hit four fours and three defensive strokes – completing the knock without playing and missing once, a six struck every 4.18 balls

Eoin Morgan, the England captain, went past 200 sixes in ODIs and raced away to his 13th ODI hundred and his 1st in a World Cup.

Eoin Morgan, who was run out for 99 on his ODI debut for Ireland, smashed 11 sixes in his innings to get to first World Cup hundred off 57 balls.

Ireland's Kevin O'Brien holds the record for the fastest World Cup hundred off 50 balls - ironically, it had come against England in a record run chase in 2011.

Australia's Glenn Maxwell has the 2nd fastest World Cup hundred off 51 balls while former South Africa batsman AB de Villers is 3rd in the list with a hundred off 55 balls.

Eoin Morgan had taken over as England captain after Alastair Cook was sacked before the 2015 World Cup. Over the last 4 years, Morgan has transformed England into a world-beating ODI side and perhaps for the first time, they are one of the favourites in a World Cup
