Edgbaston is a cricket ground located in the city of Birmingham. It is home to the Warwickshire County Cricket Club and has hosted 61 ODIs till date.
The first ODI at Birmingham was played between England and Australia on the 28th of August, 1972 – it was the 4th ODI match ever in history.
The venue has hosted two ODIs in the 2019 World Cup – between New Zealand and South Africa and New Zealand and Pakistan

England continued to remain alive in the ICC World Cup 2019 after defeating India by 31 runs in match 38 of the tournament at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
England skipper Eoin Morgan won the toss and opted to bat. The hosts were able to post a sizeable total of 337 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 50 overs, following a 109-ball 101 by opener Jonny Bairstow, with all-rounder Ben Stokes scoring an aggressive 79 off 54 deliveries as well.
Pacer Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowlers in the Indian bowling attack, recording his maiden five-wicket haul in the ICC World Cup 2019.
In reply, India seemed set to chase down the total at one stage following an excellent 138-run partnership between Virat Kohli (66) and opener Rohit Sharma, with the latter scoring his 25th ODI ton.
However, India managed only a total of 306/5  in 50 overs.

Match Highlights
 India's score of 29/1 at the end of the first powerplay was the lowest powerplay score in  the ICC World Cup 2019.

Virat Kohli is now the first captain to score five consecutive half-centuries in CWC

Shami scripts a host of World Cup records
Mohammed Shami (5/69) now has 30 career World Cup scalps.
He surpassed former Indian legend Kapil Dev in terms of career World Cup scalps (28).
Shami became the sixth Indian bowler to register a five-wicket haul in the World Cup.
He also became the second bowler ever after Shahid Afridi to claim three successive four-wicket hauls in a World Cup edition.
Shami is now the second highest wicket-taker in ODIs this year (32) and trails Trent Boult (34).
This was Shami's first five-wicket haul in ODIs.
The right-arm pacer now has 13 wickets in three games in World Cup 2019.
He is also India's highest wicket-taker in the tourney.
Shami also raced to 126 career ODI scalps.

3 – Number of centuries for Rohit Sharma in this tournament; the 5th player with as many as three tons in a single World Cup edition. Mark Waugh in 1996, Sourav Ganguly in 2003, Matthew Hayden in 2007 and Kumar Sangakkara (4) in 2015 were the other four players. Only Rohit, Hayden and Sangakkara had three tons against full member countries in an edition.

3 – Rohit now has three centuries while chasing in ICC ODI tournaments (CWC and CT); the 4th such player and the first from India. Kumar Sangakkara, Joe Root and Shakib Al Hasan are the other three players with three centuries during chases in ICC ODI tournaments.

4 – Rohit now has four centuries while chasing a target of 300+ in ODI cricket; the joint 3rd most by any player. Virat Kohli leads the list with nine such hundreds while Jason Roy has five. Kumar Sangakkara and Joe Root also have four tons apiece while chasing 300+ in ODIs.

5 – Number of ODI centuries for Rohit in England; the most by a visiting batsman. Viv Richards, Shikhar Dhawan and Kane Williamson all have four ODI tons apiece in England.

12 – This was Rohit’s 12th century while chasing in ODI cricket. Only Virat Kohli (25), Sachin Tendulkar (17) and Chris Gayle (12) have scored as many centuries as Rohit in ODI chases.

102 – Rohit’s 102-run knock is the highest individual score in an unsuccessful World Cup chase for India. Ajay Jadeja scored an unbeaten 100 against Australia in the 1999 CWC game. These two are the only centuries by Indians in unsuccessful CWC chases.

206 – Innings Rohit needed for scoring his 25th century in ODI format; the 3rd fewest by any player. Only Hashim Amla (151) and Virat Kohli (162) had their 25th ODI ton earlier than Rohit.

343 – Rohit is now the leading run-getter in ODIs at the Edgbaston in Birmingham as he scored 343 runs in only five innings with two tons and a fifty. He is currently tied with Andrew Strauss who also scored 343 runs but from six ODI innings.
 



Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow surpass 2,000 ODI partnership runs
Roy, who returned from injury, struck a 57-ball 66.
This was his second half-century in the ongoing World Cup.
It was also his fourth ODI fifty in 2019.
Roy slammed his 16th career ODI fifty.
The two openers added 160 runs for the first wicket in just 132 deliveries.
This was their ninth career century-plus stand.
They also surpassed 2,000 ODI partnership runs.


MOM Bairstow slammed his maiden World Cup century.
His 111-run knock was studded with 10 fours and six sixes.
This was the England opener's eighth career ODI hundred.
Bairstow also registered his second ODI hundred in 2019.
He went past the 600-run mark in ODIs this year (668) and is England's third highest run-scorer after Eoin Morgan (695) and Jason Roy (683).
