2019 Nigerian General Election Saturday Feb 16,2019

Nigeria,Africa's most populous nation will be voting in presidential and parliamentary elections on Saturday Feb 16,2019

More than 84 million people are registered to vote for the president, 109 senators and 360 members of the House of Representatives.

Two weeks later, voters will be asked to come out again to choose governors and members of state parliaments

Nigeria has a history of  election violence, with analysts warning that the forthcoming vote might be one of the bloodiest in the country's history.

In 2011, election violence claimed nearly 1,000 lives in the country's north following the defeat of Muhammadu Buhariof  by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The presidential contest will see incumbent Buhari seek to win a second four-year term against former vice president Atiku Abubakar in what is expected to be a close race.

Buhari's challenger Atiku Abubakar, a businessman, has been campaigning on the strength of his experience in the private sector to fix the economy and create more jobs.
