India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trailing against opposition Congress party on Tuesday in three States - M P;Rajasthan & Chhattisgarh, as counting began for the assembly elections seen as a final trial of strength for Prime Minister Narendra Modi before general elections in 2019
The elections are also a test for Rahul Gandhi, the chief of the main opposition Congress party, who is trying to forge a broad alliance with regional groups to mount the most serious challenge to Modi yet in the election that must be held by May 2019
In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP and Congress are in a tight race with Congress just a few seats in the 230-seat state assembly

The before neck-and-neck battle in Madhya Pradesh shows that voters' fractured mandate with both the BJP and Congress slightly short of majority of 116 seats. Initially, the Congress was seen taking the lead over the BJP but later BJP picked up pace.

In Rajasthan, the Congress has taken a lead in the 199-member assembly against the BJP in the initial round of counting

Among the big players in fray, Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje and Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan are leading in Jhalrapatan and Budhni seats, respectively. Congress candidate and Jaswant Singh’s son Manvendra Singh is trailing against Raje in Jhalrapatan. Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh is also trailing against Congress candidate Karuna Shukla, who is Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s niece
