In a major setback for sitting MLAs, 27 names from the current6 assembly have been dropped in the list released by the BJP which include  Urban Development Minister Maya Singh and Forest Minister Gaurishankar Shejwar. Shejwar has been replaced by his son Mudit in Sanchi constituency

However, The party has not announced any candidate from Indore and crucial seats like Govindpura in Bhopal where many candidates have expressed their wish to contest.

There are 230 constituencies in the state for which elections will be held.

Along with Chouhan, top leaders like Narottam Mishra, Yashodhara Raje Scindia and others are also on the first list of candidates.  While Scindia will contest from Shivpuri, Mishra will run from Datia.

The names were finalised during the meeting of BJP’s Central Election Committee, that was chaired by party president Amit Shah. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also attended the meeting. BJP has been in power in Madhya Pradesh since 2008 and will be looking to retain power in the state, in spite of anti-incumbency and the opposition launching scathing attacks over multiple issues.
