Uttar Pradesh Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP) MLA to give free Wi-Fi to his constituency

Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP)might stay away from social media and internet usage, but an MLA from the party is all set to make his assembly constituency fully Wi-Fi enabled.

Come January 01,2017 and BSP MLA Uma Shankar Singh will ensure that his constituency Rasra, in Ballia district,Uttar Pradesh has 40 Wi-Fi hotspots for the public to use, all free of cost.

Elected from Rasra for the first time in 2012, Singh has engaged a private telecom company to install Wi-Fi devices in all major market places and residential areas of the town.

People will have to register with the company using an ID proof and a photograph to avail of the facility. A registered applicant will get a password, using which he/she would be able to use Wi-Fi for a period of 45 minutes per day. Singh said the idea was to help students in his constituency.

"Whatever bills the facility incurs would be paid by me," he said. Singh has reportedly been approached by almost 20,000 people who wish to register for the facility.

"More and more people will come forward considering the penetration of mobile phones," he said. Rasra has around 3 lakh voters.

"The number would increase as people start realising the impact of the facility," said Singh, who has been in the eye of a controversy over getting government contracts while being an MLA.
