The 2016 Ghanaian general election is scheduled to be held on Wednesday Dec 07,2016 to elect the President and Members of Parliament

There are some 15 million registered voters. Polling starts at 0700 GMT and closes at 1700 GMT across the West African country.
The president is elected using the Two Round System  whilst the 275 members of Parliament will be elected in single-member constituencies using First Past The Post Voting

Eligible voters must be Ghanaian citizens who are at least 18 years old, although those declared insane are disenfranchised. Parliamentary candidates must be Ghanaian citizens at least 21 years old, and either be resident in their constituency or have lived there for at least five of the ten years prior to the election

Presidential Candidates

1. John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Alliance
2. Ivor Greenstreet of the Convention People's Party - 1st physically challenged candidate to contest the presidential election
3. Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party
4. Paa Kwesi Nduom of the Progressive People's Party 

The leading candidates are incumbent President John Mahama and former foreign minister Nana Akufo-Addo.
Mahama, 58, is running for a second term, with Akufo-Addo, 72, making his third -- and likely last -- bid for the highest office.

Elections in Ghana are famously close fought, with Mahama narrowly winning in 2012 with 50.7 percent.

Following the last elections in 2012, Akufo-Addo -- who polled 47.7 percent of the vote -- contested the results in Ghana's constitutional court, although he was ultimately unsuccessful.
