Ajinkya Rahane Becomes 36th Indian to Score 2000 Test Runs
Ajinkya Rahane on Day One Saturday Oct 08,2016 became the 36th Indian batsman to cross the milestone of 2000 Test runs. Rahane, who has been a key figure in the Indian middle-order over the past two years, achieved the feat in his 49th Test innings.
Rahane reached the milestone while batting during India's first innings on day 1 of the third Test match against New Zealand at Indore.
This makes him the 10th fastest Indian to the milestone. Gautam Gambhir (43 innings) and Cheteshwar Pujara (46 innings) are the only batsman in the current Indian line-up who have achieved the feat faster than Rahane.
The record of scoring the fastest 2000 runs in Test cricket for India is jointly held by the legendary Rahul Dravid and explosive Virender Sehwag. Both these greats took 40 innings to reach the mark.
