Russian Troops Arrive In Pakistan For First Ever Joint Military Drill Friday Sep 23,2016

A Russian ground forces contingent troops arrived Friday Sep 23,2016  in Pakistan for a joint military exercise days after reports that it would cancel the plan in solidarity with India after the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Uri.

Russian forces arrived in Pakistan for their first ever joint military drill that begins tomorrow, a military spokesperson said.

"A contingent of Russian ground forces arrived Pakistan for first ever Pak- Russian joint exercise," tweeted Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa, the director-general of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistan Armed Forces.

About 200 troops from the two countries will take part in the two-week military drill named 'Friendship 2016' as a sign of growing military ties between the two former Cold War rivals. It will continue till October 7,2016

The move comes amid increasing defence ties between Moscow and Islamabad, which is believed to be considering buying advanced Russian warplanes.

The joint military drill is seen as another step in their military cooperation and indicates a steady growth in their bilateral relationship after ties were marred for decades by Cold War rivalry.
