Navjot Singh Sidhu, along with wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu, formally
resigned from the Bhartiya Janta Party Wednesday Sep 14,2016. Sidhu had resigned
from the Rajya Sabha ealier in July 2016
“At behest of PM, I had accepted RS nomination for welfare of Punjab. With closure of every window leading to Punjab the purpose stands defeated, now a mere burden. I prefer not to carry it. In the war of right or wrong, you can’t afford to be neutral rather than being self-centered. Punjab’s interest is paramount,” said Sidhu upon his resignation from the Upper House.
After his resignation, speculations were rife that he would join Aam Aadmi Party as the chief ministerial candidate for Punjab, but nothing materialised and the former cricketer and former Amritsar MP did not join even the AAP.
Sidhu has formed a new political front called ‘Awaaz-e-Punjab’ with with India’s former hockey captain Pargat Singh and Punjab MLAs Simarjit Singh Bains and Balwant Singh Bains.
