Dhola Sadiya Bride , Asia's longest bridge over Brahmaputra

The bridge will reduce travel time between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh by four hours, is likely to be opened to traffic before next monsoon season.

Once the Rs 938-crore two-lane project is completed, it will be the longest bridge in Asia and will be crucial for defence purposes also.

The bridge is also being strengthened for the passage of army tanks. At present, there is no bridge fortified for passage of tanks around Tinsukia from where troops can cross over to Arunachal Pradesh. Moreover, it will cut time for the armed forces to reach the border in Dibang and Anjaw via Tezpur, which takes two days (about 186 km from Guwahati) now.

Construction of this bridge in Assam was approved as a part of Rs 24,000 crore Arunachal Pradesh package to improve road connectivity in the border state.

Note

At present, the longest operational bridge is Bandra Worli Sealink in Mumbai. It is about 5.6 kms.

It is followed by Mahatma Gandhi Setu bridge connecting Hajipur and Patna over River Ganga that has almost the same length of 5,575 metres.

With a length of 9.76 km, Kacchi Dargah-Bidupur Bridge, connecting Patna and Hajipur over River Ganga and at the same time assisting Mahatma Gandhi Setu Bridge, is proposed to be completed in 2020.

In coming 5 years, Katni railway bridge in Madhya Pradesh is also supposed to be completed. It's construction is only in the starting phase at present. It will be having a length of 14 km on the upline and 7 km on down making it the longest railway bridge too with a total length of 21 km
