2016 Rio Olympic Games in Brazil - Athletics records broken at Rio 2016 Olympics

1)Ethiopia's Almaz Ayana smashed the world record to win the Olympic 10,000 metres title. She clocked 29:17.45s.

Her time was 14 seconds inside the 29:31.78 set by China's Wang Junxia in 1993.

2)South Africa’s van Niekerk scorch the track in 43.03 in 400m, shaving off 0.15 seconds of Michael Johnson's world record set at the Seville World Championships in 1999.

3)Poland’s Wlodarczyk, the only woman to break the 80-meter barrier in the hammer throw, bested her own world record, blasting an 82.29-meter toss.

4)After three early failures, Brazil’s Da Silva passed on an attempt at 5.98 metres and pushed world record holder Renaud Lavillenie to 6.03, which the Frenchman failed twice before the Brazilian set an Olympic record by clearing that height.

5)Kenya's Conseslus Kipruto stormed to victory in the men's 3,000 metre steeplechase final.

The 21-year-old produced a final lap sprint that saw him grab gold in an Olympic record 8:3.28 seconds
