AAP’s legal wrangles: 12 MLAs arrested, 15 booked since it came to power in Feb 2015

At least 12 Aam Aadmi Party MLAs have been arrested and 15 booked by Delhi Police on various charges in the 19 months since the AAP came to power in February 2015.
The list of its legislators mired in legal trouble is growing by the day with the latest arrests of MLA Somnath Bharti and legislator Amanatullah Khan within a space of two days. Both the MLAs were arrested for the second time.
Here is a look at all the arrests and bookings:
Malviya Nagar MLA Somnath Bharati
Bharati was arrested on Thursday Sep 22,2016 for allegedly assaulting security staff at Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences earlier this month.
He was earlier arrested in September 2015 after his wife Lipika Mitra filed cases of attempt to murder, domestic violence, and cheating against him.
Two other cases were lodged against him in connection with the midnight Khirki Extension raid in 2014 during which African women were allegedly molested and manhandled by a mob led by Bharti.
Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan
Khan was first arrested by the police on July 24 this year for allegedly threatening a woman with rape and murder. The woman, who had gone to his house to discuss the issue of power cuts, had alleged that Khan’s men stalked her and threatened to kidnap her children. She also claimed that Khan tried to run her over with his car.
He was sent to a 14-day judicial custody and released on bail.
On Wednesday, Khan was arrested again on charges of sexual harassment. Khan’s relative alleged that he had forced her to get into a physical relationship with him. She also complained that her husband allegedly demanded dowry and forced her to do as Khan asked.
Mehrauli MLA Naresh Yadav
Yadav was booked by the Punjab police in connection with the alleged sacrilege of the Quran in Sangrur district’s Malerkotla on June 24.
Yadav was booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code after one of the accused, Vijay Kumar, arrested in connection with the incident, claimed he threw the torn pages of the Quran in a drain at the behest of the AAP MLA.
Deoli MLA Prakash Jarwal
There are two FIRs against Jarwal.
The recent one was filed on July 6 after a woman accused him of molestation and threatening her when she went to Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to file a complaint. He was arrested a day later.
The first FIR was on filed on May 22, 2014, for assaulting a DJB engineer when he refused to listen to his instructions while supervising a drilling work in Sangam Vihar.
Sangam Vihar MLA Dinesh Mohaniya
Mohaniya was arrested on June 25 for molesting, assaulting and threatening a woman who had gone to meet him about a water problem in her area on June 22.
A day later another FIR was filed against him for slapping and manhandling a senior citizen in Govindpuri. The senior citizen alleged he was beaten when he complained about local issues.
Hari Nagar MLA Jagdeep Singh
Singh was arrested on May 29 for causing hurt, criminal intimidation and wrongful restraint of manager of a waste management company on May 21.
Vikaspuri MLA Mahindra Yadav
Yadav was arrested on January 29 for rioting and assaulting a public servant during a protest in west Delhi’s Nihal Vihar on January 27.
Model Town MLA Akhilesh Pati Tripathi
Tripathi was arrested on charges of molestation in November 2015.
Delhi Cantonment MLA Surinder Singh ‘Commando’
Singh was arrested on August 21, 2015, for making casteist remarks against a New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) sanitation inspector belonging to the Schedule Caste, obstructing him and other employees from performing government duty.
Tri Nagar MLA Jitender Singh Tomar
Tomar was arrested on June 10, 2015, for enrolling with Delhi Bar Council using fake LLB and BSc degree. An FIR was registered at the Hauz Khas police station on June 8, 2015.
Chandni Chowk MLA Alka Lamba
An FIR was lodged against Lamba in August 2015 on the complaint of a businessman who said she trespassed into his shop and ransacked it. She was also booked for manhandling a constable at the spot. She was not arrested.
Kondli MLA Manoj Kumar
There are four FIRs against Kumar for charges including land grabbing, outraging a woman’s modesty and causing hurt that were registered at three east Delhi police stations. Kumar was not arrested in any of the cases.
Matia Mahal Asim Ahmed Khan
An FIR was registered in October 2015 against Khan, the then food minister, for accepting a bribe of Rs 6 lakh. Delhi’s chief minister Arvind Kejriwal sacked him on charges of corruption.
Janakpuri (West) MLA Rajesh Rishi
An FIR was registered against him at Janakpuri police station on July 20, 2016, after a woman, who attempted suicide on July 15 alleged that another woman was harassing her husband and her at Rishi’s “behest”.
