2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election - Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) Decides Not To Contest

The Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) has decided not to contest the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls and instead focus on building up a cadre in the state.

The AAP which was formed around four years ago, has very few known faces across UP. While party's supremo Arvind Kejriwal who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha polls from Varanasi against Narendra Modi, has now decided to rather focus on assembly elections in Punjab and Goa, which are set to take place around the same time.

In a meeting held at party's headquarters in Delhi on Wednesday Aug 31,2016, the decision was announced to the Uttar Pradesh unit of the the AAP.

The meeting was attended by party officials from around 75 districts in UP, zonal conveners and observers and central leaders in-charge

AAP's UP in-charge Sanjay Singh said that the party is eyeing victory in 2019 in the Lok Sabha elections. "While other parties are aiming for assembly polls, we will aim for municipal elections in the state and focus on creating a strong organisation on the ground,"
