2016 US Open Women's Singles QF's - Angelique Kerber(Germany)beats Roberta Vinci(Italy)7-5,6-0 and enters the SF's Tuesday Sep 06,2016

There was to be no upset win for Roberta Vinci this year on Arthur Ashe Stadium as Angelique Kerber booked her place in the semi-finals of the US Open.

On the same court on which Vinci had memorably ended Serena Williams’ Calendar Grand Slam bid 12 months ago, the 33-year-old Italian served for the first set but could not see it out and German second seed Kerber ran out a 7-5, 6-0 winner in one hour and 18 minutes.

Kerber said: ‘I think it is always difficult to play against Roberta. She is a great player and played so well last year here. She came out to play good tennis.
