The first sport of the 2016 Olympic Games got under way here Wednesday Aug 03,2016 as the women's football tournament kicked off in front of a near-empty stadium.
With just 48 hours to go before Friday Aug 05,2016's opening ceremony, Sweden and South Africa faced each other in Rio de Janeiro's Olympic Stadium.
The game started with swathes of empty seats in the 60,000-capacity stadium, which will also host the blue riband track and field events.
