Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Vs Samsung Galaxy Note 5: What's Different?




Display
The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 comes with a 5.7-inch super AMOLED QHD display that has a curved Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It's the first smartphone to come with a Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The display on the Note 7 has a pixel density of 518ppi. The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 on the other hand sports a 5.7-inch super AMOLED QHD display. The resolution on both the devices is 2560 x 1440 pixels.
Processor
The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 features a Octa-core Exynos 8890 (2.3GHz Quad + 1.6GHz Quad), 64 bit, 14 nm processor which is backed by 4GB LPDDR4 RAM. The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 on the other hand, features Samsung's Exynos 7420 64-bit octa-core processor paired with 4GB of RAM. Both the devices spot a similar RAM and the processor clock speed on the Note 7 is more than what you got on the Note 5.
Storage
The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 came in two storage options of 32 GB and 64 GB. Both versions lacked expandable storage options. The new Galaxy Note 7 comes with a standard 64 GB version and sports an expandable memory slot that can support a microSD card of up to 256 GB.
Camera
The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 sports a 16 megapixel rear camera with f/1.9 aperture. The Galaxy Note 7 borrows its camera from the Samsung Galaxy S7 and gets a DualPixel 12 megapixel sensor with f/1.7 aperture. The camera module on the Note 7 is similar to th one that you get on the Samsung Galaxy S7/ S7 Edge. The front camera on both the phones is of 5 megapixels with the only difference being the aperture size. The Galaxy Note 5's front camera has a f/1.9 aperture and the Note 7's front camera sports a f/1.7 aperture.
Battery
The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 gets a 500 mAh bump in terms of the battery size that the Note 5 had. The Note 7 features a 3500 mAh battery with USB-C for charging whereas the Note 5 has a 3000 mAh battery with a micro-USB connector.
Security
For security, the Galaxy Note 5 only has a fingerprint sensor, but the Galaxy Note 7 additionally has iris scan technology for improved biometric security on the device.
Operating System
The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system unlike the Note 5 that runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop Operating system out-of-the-box.
Additionally, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will be an IP68 water-and-dust resistant device that can survive under 5 feet of water for 30 minutes. This was not available on the Galaxy Note 5.
