Rio Saw 1.17 Million Tourists During Games, Zero Cases of Zika

Rio de Janeiro eceived 1.17 million tourists during the 2016 Rio Olympic Games Aug 05-21,2016, including 410,000 foreigners, and zero cases of Zika were reported, Rio mayor Eduardo Paes announced.





Between August 5 and 21, 2016 the dates of the Games, 8,651 tourists were attended in public hospitals and clinics, including 2,133 foreigners. However, none of these presented symptoms of Zika.


Giving out figures at a press conference, Paes said that for the two weeks of the Games, Rio saw a hotel occupancy rate of 94 % and each tourist spent an average of 424.6 reais ($131.7) a day.

The United States provided most of the foreign tourists (17 %), followed by Argentina (12 %) and Germany (7 %), he said.
