Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards (AACTA)


The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) is a professional organisation of film and television practitioners in Australia. The Academy's aim is "to identify, award, promote and celebrate Australia's greatest achievements in film and television."

Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA)was established in August 2011 with the backing of the Australian Film Institue(AFI) to act as its industry engagement arm and to administer the AACTA Awards(formerly the Australian Film Institute Awards, also known as the AFI Awards) which rewards achievements in Australian feature film, television, documentary and short films.

Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA)which has between 1,500 and 2,000 members,comprises fifteen Chapters, with each representing a different area of speciality in feature film, television, documentary and short film.

The Inaugural AACTA Awards were held in January 2012 and included the AACTA International Awards (held in Los Angeles – marking AFI | AACTA's first internationally-held Awards event), and the inaugural Samsung AACTA Awards, held at the Sydney Opera House and broadcast nationally on Channel Nine

On 3 December 2012, the full list of nominees for feature-film, television and non-feature films were released.Round two of voting, to determine the feature-film award winners, commenced on the day of the nominations announcement, and concluded on 13 December 2012.
